The giver

In the book the giver Jonas, his little sister lily, and his mom dad are all sitting at the tablesharing their dreams which they do everyday, though Jonas rarely has dreams, but happened to have one the night before. His dream takes place in the bathing room, where he was with his crush Fiona. He wanted her to take off he her clothes so he could bathe her but she just laughed and said no. When Lily and her dad left, he described this feeling to his mom as a wanting feeling. That’s when she told him that he would have to start taking pills everyday so he wouldn’t keep having these dreams and those feelings. Shortly after this experience he and all the other kids younger than twelve are going to a ceremony to celebrate there new year and age. Every year you get something different. Like when your 9 you get a bike, and when your twelve (which is the age Jonas will soon be) you get assigned a job. Jonas is finally about to get his job assigned at the ceremony…..when they skip him! Soon after they are done reading all the names they finally bring Jonas up for a special announcement. He has been selected as the receiver of memory. Everyone cheers for Jonas for they know how great an honor that job is. Only one person in the whole community is assigned that job and not very often. They say it takes a lot of bravery and courage for that job. Soon Jonas will understand why. The next day at his first training something very odd happens, his trainer talks about all these things he has never heard about like sledding, going downhill, and more. His trainer soon realizes Jonas doesn’t know what those things are. That’s when he gives him the memory of snow. After Jonas finds out he can receive memories he starts receiving ones with different feelings, meanings, and pain. Particularly one day he has a memory about sledding down a hill. Thats when he starts seeing color, and feeling different types of temperatures. One day Jonas is holding Gabe when he accidentally gives him a memory. The next day he doesn’t tell anyone, not even the Giver. After a while when Jonas is soon getting use to new memories, he asks the giver about the old reciever, which is never spoken of. He finds out her name is Rosemary and later in the book he also finds out that Rosemary actually was the givers daughter. He talks about how happy she was until one day she started receiving pain. She asked to be released but when she did her memories were accidentally released into Jonas’s community. Jonas asks to see a video of a release. When he watches the video he finds out that a realeasing is really the communities way off bringing death to the world. Since nobody really has feelings though, they don’t seem to care that they are raking away lives. So one day the giver and Jonas decide to make a plan, Jonas is going to try to escape so his memories will release into and the world will be like it use to be. Then he finds out Gabe is going to be realesed so he brings him with him. In the end they escape to the hill that he had a memory of sledding down in the beginning. Good decision I think a good decision Jonas made was to escape. If he didn’t escape the world would still be missing a lot of things like color, pain, feelings, and even temperatures. Plus, he also saved Gabe’s life and probably many more to come in the future if he hadn’t escaped. I think it would’ve been a very hard decision to make and I am glad he went with his heart and did the right thing. It showed how brave he really was. Another reason why it was good was because everyone else got to discover the memories and saw things they had never seen before like birds.
